EXCLUSIVE Interview With Daniel P.T. May - the young man making a difference

How did the book project come about?
I went though a lot of pain after breaking up with my boyfriend last year in mid July, and life in general. So i decided to write it down to make it clear in my mind and reality what was going on. After experiencing the pain i went though i thought it might be able to help others, so that was when i decided to turn it into a book.

Why do a book like this when there are so many “Self Help” and “Self Awareness” books on the market now?
As far as im aware there are not many books out there written by young gay men,but at the end of the day there are so many other books out there, but still every book will tell a different story.

Is it important to you to be a role model for your peers?
whether its family or friends i want everybody to be proud of me, but most of all i want to be proud of myself. I want this book to help others who might be going through similar pains.

When will it be released and where can we buy it?
Hopefully early new year, I am self publishing so its taking a bit longer than hoped. You will be able to buy (Born to be gay- underlined secrets) in all good book stores.
Why did you start up the charity HIVISION?
In 1996 my uncle died of an AIDS-related illness. Even though he was not alone at that time, there are many sufferers who are and continue to be. With this thought in mind, i set up HIVISION in order to prevent people having to face the illnesses HIV and AIDS alone.

Tell us a bit about your charity efforts?
After having sleepness nights trying to get the charity up and running and active publicity for the charity, on the radio, being sponsered at events, we are getting there with great progress. As with most charity's the work is none stop, and there is still alot to be done.

Hivision- who is it aimed at?
We are trying to aim at the gay community and making them aware of the dangers of unprotective sex of their own lives and that of other people.
What will it bring to the community?
A sense of not being alone, that there are other people out there that care. we aim to help people with HIV and AIDS live healthy lives, not just physically but, most importantly, mentally.
Sadly, many continue to battle alone with the illnesses, so HIVISION aims to give sufferers a chance to meet others and enable them to build new friendships by offering day excursions, confidential and unbiased support.

Why is it important to have young gay guys doing active community work?
It gives them a sense of belonging, helps to dispel myths amoungst the straight community.
Whats next on the horizon for you?
Want to be successful and to be able to help others along the way. I have a project on the table,,,,,, all will be announced soon. Watch this space.

What do you like about the South East London Scene?
It's a nice change from up town, the west end. I find it to be far too pretentious and people are far to stuck up their own arses. The nice thing about the south east gay scene is that it's much more relaxed, people dont judge you so much. The best place for this is 286.
